The CLMVT textile industry plays a vital role in regional economic growth and employment but faces increasing challenges from the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the need to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These pressures call for a transition toward sustainable and low-carbon production models. Without such a shift, export costs to the EU could rise significantly due to CBAM requirements. Since most emissions stem from upstream activities, adopting innovative sustainable materials is essential to reduce carbon footprints, promote circularity, and enhance competitiveness. This project seeks to advance sustainable materials through research, capacity building, collaboration, and verification mechanisms, fostering sustainable growth and resilience across the Mekong-Lancang region.
The project will benefit multiple stakeholders within the CLMVT region. The direct beneficiaries include the textile industry and private companies, which will gain from capacity building, training, and access to best practices supporting the transition to sustainable materials and circular economy models. Industry professionals and researchers will benefit through knowledge sharing and collaboration opportunities, while policymakers will receive insights to guide sustainable policy development. Ultimately, consumers and society will gain from reduced environmental impacts, better product quality, and greater sustainability awareness. Indirect beneficiaries include supply chain partners, environmental organizations, and development agencies influenced by the project's positive impacts.
This project aims to transform the CLMVT textile industry into a sustainable and circular model that integrates innovative materials and practices in response to CBAM and SDG challenges. Its key objectives are to promote the use of sustainable materials, encourage circular economy principles, and establish a verification scheme to ensure industry compliance. Additionally, the project seeks to strengthen capacity and knowledge among industry stakeholders and foster collaboration through networking and digital platforms. Collectively, these efforts will enhance the industry's competitiveness, resilience, and contribution to global sustainability goals.
Be part of the transformation toward a sustainable and circular CLMVT textile industry.
